Signs

Signs Your Control Board Is Failing

The board is your oven’s brain — when it fails, symptoms are erratic. If several of these hit at once, the board is suspect #1.

  • Display dead or gibberish — blank, dim, or scrambled digits while the oven has power.
  • Buttons unresponsive — some or all keys dead (we rule out the keypad membrane first).
  • Phantom beeping / F-codes that won’t clear — the board hallucinating faults.
  • Relay chattering or clicking — audible rapid clicking from behind the panel.
  • Oven runs with no input, or shuts off randomly — stuck or failed relays on the board.
  • One function dead, rest fine — a single failed relay channel (e.g., bake relay out, broil works).

Repair vs Replace

Can the Board Be Repaired — or Must It Be Replaced?

Honest answer: it depends on the failure. Here’s how we decide, and what each path costs.

Board-Level Repair

Burned relay, swollen capacitor, cracked solder joint — we replace the failed component. $150–$350 when the damage is localized. Not every board qualifies.

Full Board Replacement

Dead processor, delaminated traces, or obsolete board — new OEM board fitted and programmed. $200–$600 including the part.

Process

How We Diagnose It

Boards are expensive — so we prove it’s the board before you pay for one:

  • Power and harness verified first. Loose neutrals and pinched harnesses mimic board failure.
  • Inputs metered. Keypad, sensors, and door switches tested — a $150 keypad isn’t a $400 board.
  • Relay outputs tested under load. We confirm the board isn’t sending voltage it should (or is sending it when it shouldn’t).
  • Quoted before ordering. You approve the exact board cost — no surprise parts bills.

FAQs

Control Board FAQs

Diagnosis, repair-vs-replace, and cost answers.

How do I know if my oven control board is bad?

Multiple erratic symptoms at once — dead display plus dead buttons, phantom beeping, or F-codes that survive a breaker reset. We rule out the cheaper suspects (keypad, harness, power) before condemning the board.

Can an oven control board be repaired, or must it be replaced?

Both happen. Localized damage (burned relay, bad capacitor, cracked solder) can be component-repaired for $150–$350. Dead processors or delaminated boards need full replacement at $200–$600.

Why is my oven beeping for no reason?

Usually a failing keypad membrane or a board hallucinating key presses. Breaker-reset it once — if beeping returns, it’s hardware, and the flat-rate diagnostic will identify which.

How much does oven control board replacement cost?

$200–$600 in Beaverton including the OEM board, fitting, and programming. We quote the exact board price before ordering — you approve it first.

My oven shows an F-code that won’t clear. Is the board dead?

Not necessarily — many F-codes are sensor or latch faults. Check our error code guides first; if the code survives a proper reset and the sensor tests good, then we look at the board.
