Before You Call: The Reset Protocol
The right reset, done once, properly.
Universal Reset Protocol (Try First)
- Note the code. Photograph the display — codes can clear on reset and we’ll want to know which one appeared.
- Breaker off, 60 seconds. Flip the oven’s breaker fully OFF, wait a full minute, flip back ON. This clears transient faults.
- Reset the clock. Many ovens won’t heat until the clock is set after a power cycle.
- Test one function. Try Bake at 350°F. If the code returns immediately, it’s a hard fault — stop resetting and call us.
- Don’t repeat endlessly. Three failed resets = real failure. Repeated power-cycling won’t fix a bad sensor or board.
GE Error Code FAQs
Quick answers for GE owners.
What does F1 mean on my GE oven?
F1 signals an internal control-board failure. One breaker reset is worth trying; if F1 returns, the board needs replacement ($150–$600 depending on your GE line).
My GE oven shows F3. Can I fix it myself?
F3 is the sensor circuit — the fix is a $100–$350 sensor swap, but it requires opening the back panel and working around 240V. That’s technician work; the diagnostic is a flat-rate visit.
Why does my GE oven show F9 after self-clean?
F9 = door lock failure, GE’s classic post-self-clean fault. Don’t force the door — see our stuck-door guide. Latch repair runs $120–$300.
My GE shows FF. What’s that?
FF usually indicates a door-lock motor issue on newer models — cousin to F9. Same advice: cool down, reset once, then call if it persists.
How do I clear a GE oven error code?
Breaker OFF for 60 seconds, back ON, reset the clock. If the code returns on the next Bake cycle, it’s a hard fault — call (971) 399-8141 for same-day diagnosis.
