Checklist

The Pre-Thanksgiving Oven Checklist

Do this in October or early November — not the week of. Every item takes minutes and catches the failures that ruin holidays.

  • Run a full bake test now. Preheat to 350°F with an oven thermometer inside. If it’s off by more than 25°F, book a calibration check.
  • Test self-clean 3+ weeks out — never the week of. Self-clean pushes ovens hardest; failures love to appear mid-cycle. Details: self-clean guide →
  • Check the door seal. Close the door on a dollar bill — if it slides out easily, heat is escaping and the turkey cooks unevenly.
  • Test the broiler. Two minutes on Broil should show even orange glow. Dark spots mean a dying element.
  • Listen to the convection fan. Grinding or silence? Get it fixed before it seizes mid-roast.

FAQs

Thanksgiving Oven FAQs

Timing, tune-ups, and holiday emergencies.

When should I test my oven before Thanksgiving?

October or the first week of November. That leaves time for parts if something fails — most repairs are same-day, but holiday-week slots fill fast.

My oven died the week of Thanksgiving. Can you still help?

Call us immediately at (971) 399-8141 — we hold emergency capacity through the holiday week every year. The earlier you call, the better your odds.

Should I run self-clean before Thanksgiving?

Only if you do it 3+ weeks early. Self-clean is the hardest cycle your oven runs — if it’s going to expose a weak thermal fuse or latch, you want that to happen in October, not November.

How much is a pre-Thanksgiving tune-up?

Our standard flat-rate diagnostic covers the full function test: temperature accuracy, door seal, elements, igniter, and fan — credited in full if any repair is needed.

What if my oven can’t be fixed before the holiday?

We’ll tell you honestly and fast — then you still have time for Plan B. That’s exactly why testing early matters.
