Why Your Oven Has No Power

No lights, no clock, zero response? Power isn’t reaching the controls. The cause is almost always upstream of the oven itself.

Dead-Oven Checklist (Safest First)

  • Breaker first. Ovens pull 30–50 amps — a tripped double-pole breaker is the #1 cause of a “dead” oven. Flip it fully OFF, then back ON. If it trips again immediately, stop and call us — that’s a short.
  • Partial 240V loss. One leg of your 240V supply can drop while the other lives — the clock may work but nothing heats. Only a meter confirms this; it’s a common misdiagnosis.
  • Outlet & cord (electric). Burnt or loose terminals at the wall receptacle are common on older installs — we see scorch marks here weekly.
  • Thermal fuse (after overheating). A blown fuse kills everything until replaced — and we find why it blew so it doesn’t happen again.
  • Control board (last resort). If full power reaches the board and nothing responds, the board failed. $150–$600 depending on the model.

FAQs

Oven Won’t Turn On FAQs

For Beaverton homeowners facing a completely dark oven.

Why did my oven suddenly stop working?

The most common sudden-death causes: a tripped breaker, a blown thermal fuse (often after self-clean), or a power surge. All three are diagnosable in minutes with the right meter — which is exactly what the service call covers.

Can a power outage kill an oven?

Yes — surges when power returns damage control boards. If your oven died after an outage, see our post-outage guide before assuming the worst.

Is it safe to check the breaker myself?

Yes — flipping a breaker fully off and on is safe and is always step one. What isn’t DIY: opening the back panel, testing 240V terminals, or replacing cords. That’s where we come in.

My oven is 12 years old and dead — repair or replace?

Use the 50% rule: if the repair costs more than half of a comparable new oven and the unit is 10+ years old, replace it. A $150 fuse on a 12-year-old oven? Still worth fixing. A $600 board? Probably not.

How fast can you get my oven working again?

Same-day diagnosis across Beaverton, 7 days a week. Fuses, cords, and receptacles are usually fixed on the spot; boards may take 1–3 days to source.
