How It Works

What Makes a Convection Oven Different

A convection oven adds a fan (and often a third heating element around it) that circulates hot air. When the fan system fails, you get the worst of both worlds — hot spots, long cook times, and dried-out food.

Fan-Only Convection

Fan circulates air from the standard bake/broil elements. Cheapest to fix — usually just the motor.

True / European Convection

A dedicated element rings the fan for even heat. Two parts can fail: fan motor or ring element.

Dual-Fan Systems

High-end wall ovens use two fans. We test each independently — one bad fan mimics a dead oven.

Convection problems often look like not heating → or uneven temperature → — we verify before replacing parts.

Symptoms

Signs Your Convection System Is Failing

Convection-specific failures have telltale signs. If any of these sound familiar, the fan circuit is suspect #1.

  • Fan never spins — silent oven, food cooks slowly and unevenly. Usually the motor or its relay.
  • Loud rattling or grinding — worn fan bearings. It’ll seize soon; don’t wait.
  • Fan runs but food still uneven — true-convection ring element has failed; the fan is just moving cool air.
  • Convection mode dead, regular bake works — points squarely at the fan circuit, not the main elements.
  • Oven overheats on convection — failed sensor or stuck relay driving the element too hard.

Process & Cost

How We Fix It — and What It Costs

Convection diagnosis is methodical: we test the motor, the ring element, the relay, and the sensor independently so you only pay for the part that actually failed.

RepairTypical CostNotes
Convection fan motor$150–$400Most common convection fix
Ring (true convection) element$150–$350Fan runs, heat doesn’t
Fan relay / control$120–$300Fan won’t start or won’t stop
Temperature sensor$100–$300Overheating on convection

FAQs

Convection Oven Repair FAQs

Answers for fan failures, noise, and uneven cooking.

Why is my convection oven cooking unevenly?

Either the fan isn’t moving air (bad motor or relay) or the true-convection ring element failed while the fan still spins. We test both independently — flat-rate diagnostic, fee credited in full.

My convection fan is making noise. Can it wait?

Not long. A noisy fan has worn bearings and will seize — sometimes mid-cook, sometimes taking the element with it. $150–$400 now beats a bigger bill later.

Convection mode doesn’t work but regular bake does. What’s wrong?

That isolates the fault to the convection circuit: fan motor, ring element, or fan relay. The main bake/broil elements are fine, which actually makes this a cheaper fix.

Is it worth repairing a convection oven vs. buying new?

Almost always. Convection repairs run $100–$400; a comparable new convection range starts around $1,200 plus delivery and install. See our repair vs. replace guide.

Do you repair double wall ovens with convection?

Yes — including dual-fan systems. Each cavity is diagnosed independently: wall oven repair.
